Reverend James was the first Negro to be elected President of the Dallas Democratic Men. As President of the Dallas Metropolitan
Council of the N.A.A.C.P Branches, he performed a distinguished service for the community as it presses forward with the
unfinished democratic mission. The New Hope Discovery Day School conducts an outstanding bi-lingual program with emphasis
upon aesthetic and science awareness. The many activities and Study Programs attempt to apply the Gospel to all life to personal
ethics, family life, and social and civic issues.

The Reverend Ronald E. Jones (1987—1989 and 1990—1991), a progressive young minister, public administrator, civic worker,
and adjunct professor, graciously consented to accept the role of interim pastor on two separate occasions, when he was selected
by the church and its members.  Reverend Jones received his B.A. degree from the Dallas Baptist University and his Masters
Degree in Human Relations and Business Management from the Abilene College Institute for Biblical Studies.  As a member of
the church, he had previously taken an active role in carrying out the church program.  Because of this, and through the
enthusiastic support of his wife Peggy and sons Ronald and Daryl, the church program continued uninterrupted each time he
served as Interim Pastor, while arrangements were made for the ministerial vacancy to be permanently filled.

The Reverend Victor Tyrhone Hall, (1987— 1990), grew up in Dallas, Texas, and established an excellent record in the public
schools as an outstanding student and a dedicated, young, Christian gentleman.  He attended Morehouse College in Atlanta,
Georgia, where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa national Honor Society in 1981, and graduated as the highest ranking B.
A. Student in his class in 1982.  As the grandson of a minister, (the Reverend Z. R. Figures), and the product of a Christian home,
the Reverend Hall was called to the ministry at an early age.  He was licensed to preach the gospel at the age of 18 by the Concord
Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the Reverend E. K. Bailey.

Reverend Hall’s ministry is closely associated with education.  After his graduation from college, he attended the Union
Theological Seminary in New York City.  While in New York, he worked for three years as a student minister at the Cornerstone
Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York, where he was ordained to the Christian Ministry in 1985 by Dr. Harry S. Wright and the
Empire State Convention.

Among the many accomplishments of the Rev. Hall, was the implementation of weekly Bible study and refocusing the direction of
the church in National and State Convention activities.

The Reverend Dr. Derrick Harkins, (1991), was the 11th pastor to serve the New Hope Baptist Church.  A graduate of the Union
Theological Seminary, where he received a Masters of Divinity Degree, with an emphasis on church history.  Dr Harkens also
holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Communications from Boston University, and completed Doctoral Studies with the
Proctor—Booth Fellows program at the United Theological Seminary of Dayton, Ohio.

Prior to his accepting the call to New Hope, Dr. Harkins served for eight years as the Assistant Minister of the historic Abyssinian
Baptist Church of Harlem, New York.  He was active an active voice regarding a number of social issues, including conditions for
homeless families, racially motivated violence, as well as apartheid in South Africa.

Dr Harkins preached in a number of distinguished pulpits throughout the Eastern United States, and has lectured on the church
and social action at a number of colleges and universities, including Columbia University, Wellesley College, Bucknell University,
Cornell University, and Wingate College, where he delivered the 1988 Staley Lectures.

Dr. Harkins served as an Assistant Director of Admissions for Boston University, as well as having worked in both radio and
television on the air and in production.  Also, while living in Boston, he implemented a program which provided tutoring for inmates
in local penal institutions.  The Reverend Doctor Harkins is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, where he was a member of the Antioch
Baptist Church.  He is married to the former Miss Juli Davis.
